44. Jaguar C Type

44.Jaguar C type

He retired in 1952 after a crash left him in a coma for a month, as afterwards he felt unable to continue driving at a professional level. Moss was a pioneer in the British Formule One racing scene and placed second in the Drivers Championship four times in a row from 1955 to 1958. The Jaguar C Type was successful in racing, most notably at Le Mans 24 hours race, which it won twice. The first time in 1951. The second time in 1953. This time the body was thinner, lighter aluminium and the original twin H8 sand cast SU carburettors where replaced by three DC03 40 mm Webers, which helped boost power to 220 bhp. Further weight was saved by using a rubber bag fuel tank, lighter electrical equipment and thinner gange steel for some of the chassis tubes. The most significant change to the cars was the switch to disc brakes. A C Type once owned and raced by Phil Hill sold at an American auction in August 2009 for $ 2.530,000.
